  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon nutmeg

Preparation Steps
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the sliced apples and water. Cook for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the butter and allow to melt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, cornstarch, and nutmeg until well combined.
  3. Add the sugar mixture to the saucepan with the apples. Stir constantly for 2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the apple pie filling to cool completely before using or storing.
  5. Store the cooled filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.

This recipe yields approximately 4 cups of delicious apple pie filling. It's fantastic in traditional apple pies, but also try it in crisps, tarts, or as a warm topping for pancakes, waffles, or ice cream!
