Preparation Steps
- Add the apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, ginger, and nutmeg into a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugars dissolve completely.
- Once dissolved, add the fresh cranberries and increase heat until the mixture boils.
- Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, or until all cranberries have popped and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool slightly while you prepare the brie.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the brie wheel in a shallow baking dish and make a few slits in the top rind.
- Top the brie generously with the cooled cranberry sauce.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the brie is soft and slightly melted.
- Remove from oven and drizzle honey over the warm brie. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts if desired.
- Serve immediately with crackers, bread, or baguette slices.
Notes
This appetizer is best served warm and pairs wonderfully with festive gatherings. The cranberry sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator until ready to use.
