Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add boiling water to the batter, mixing continuously. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
