  • 0.75 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh ginger or 0.5 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 5.5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 0.5 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 dried red chilis optional
  • sliced green onions for garnish
  • sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Toss the chicken and cornstarch in a large bowl until the chicken is completely coated.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk ginger, garlic, dark brown sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and orange juice until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Shake excess cornstarch off the chicken. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Fry chicken for 2 to 3 minutes on all sides until crispy and golden.
  4. Pour the sauce into the pan and add dried red chilis if using. Stir well until coated. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes until sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and serve warm.
